A collaborative public art mural project commemorating the 250th anniversary of the US. Three on-site mural panels will be created at Baldwin Public Library in Birmingham, MI: a 6'x 8' two panel mural depicting the country's current challenges, a 4' x 18' three panel mural depicting the country's past, and a 6'x 8' two panel mural depicting a collective vision for the future. 15-20 artists will be invited to participate.

  • Submission deadline: Midnight August 12, 2026
  • Notification: Monday, August 17, 2026
  • Project weekend: August 28-30, 2026 (Friday-Sunday)

Friday: Invited speakers, project discussion, self-organizing, planning, and a paid shopping trip to Blick for supplies. Visit to the Detroit Institute of Arts Friday evening for a docent explanation of Diego Rivera Court fresco series murals. Saturday-Sunday: Collaborative painting on-site.

Pre-project homework includes a syllabus for online exploration. Recommended minimum artist time of 3-5 hours before the weekend. Artists are welcome to exceed this minimum with additional reading and online content.

Each participating artist will receive $250 for their work upon completion of the project.
