Overview
The City of Montrose is seeking qualifications from experienced public artists or artist teams to design, fabricate, and install a signature large-scale steel public art installation at the new Rio Grande Avenue and Oak Grove Road Roundabout and surrounding bike path. The project includes two interconnected public spaces with over 600 feet of potential installation area.

Eligibility
Regional eligibility. Open to experienced public artists or artist teams. Proposals incorporating Native American or Indigenous culture, heritage, history, or imagery must be created by a Native American or Indigenous artist or developed through meaningful collaboration with an appropriate Native American or Indigenous artist or cultural representative, with substantive involvement in the artwork's development.
Themes
Artists should draw inspiration from community-identified themes. The three most preferred categories are: local Native American heritage, Western Colorado wildlife, and horses. Proposals may incorporate one or more of these themes.
Artistic Direction
Artwork should be constructed primarily of steel and suitable for permanent outdoor installation. Include a balance of vibrant accent colors and natural earth tones. Feature representational or realistic imagery rather than abstract forms, depicting recognizable subjects. Design for a minimum 25-year lifespan with minimal maintenance requirements. Create visual impact from multiple viewpoints.
Project Budget & Scope
The total project budget is $75,000 to cover all costs associated with design, fabrication, delivery, and installation. The site includes a primary sculpture in the roundabout centerpiece and complementary artistic elements along the bike path immediately south of the roundabout, creating a unified gateway experience.
Application Requirements
Submit up to 20 images (minimum 1), up to 6 audio files (optional), and up to 6 video files (optional). Submission limit: 1 artist or artist team per application.
