Get matched →AMAZÔNIA: AMAZON SESSION is a multidisciplinary artist immersive residency program in the heart of the Amazon rainforest. Designed to gather creatives of all disciplines, the program fosters exploration, experimentation, connection, and deep research. Through 'artistic foraging' and deep immersion, participants are encouraged to stimulate their artistic process and forge new creative connections. The program provides a space for creatives to develop ideas, ground their practice in the soil of Alter do Chão, and engage meaningfully with the local community. It emphasizes site-responsive immersion and an intimate dialogue with the land, guided by local collaborators and the ecosystem's intelligence.
The program is built upon the freedom of inquiry rather than the pressure of production, encouraging a slow and intentional absorption of the environment. While the practice remains self-directed and unscheduled, two curators/guides will be on-site to organize various practices and activities that artists may choose to join at their own discretion.
We invite artists and practitioners from all disciplines to apply, including—but not limited to—visual artists, photographers, filmmakers, curators, writers, poets, musicians, sound artists, performers, botanists, scientists, activists, and researchers. The program is designed for professionals at every stage of their journey, from emerging voices to established practitioners. We actively encourage applications from those with non-traditional backgrounds who wish to bridge their knowledge with the forest.
Accommodations are shared and designed to foster communal living, deeply connected to the local rhythms of Alter do Chão and the surrounding forest. Private rooms may be available upon request, depending on availability. Participants have access to a shared kitchen, fridge, freezer, and outdoor dining area for self-catering. Basic cooking equipment is provided. Participants are responsible for their own meals, kitchen supplies, and hygiene items outside of welcoming and farewell events.
Every listing links to the organizer's official page. Always confirm deadlines, fees, and entry rules there before you apply.
The program encourages participants to step beyond conventional studio walls, using the Amazon territory as their primary workshop. The elements—water, mud, light, and humidity—become collaborators. Participants are invited to develop open-air practices where their process is dictated by the rhythm of the tides, the shifting tropical light, and the profound silence of the trees.
This residency operates through a participation fee. We are an independent, artist-led, non-profit.
