Funding supports historic preservation consultant fees and other expenses related to the preparation and submission of landmark nominations.
Individuals must be at least 18 years old and King County residents. All applicants must have property owner consent for landmark designation. Properties must be located in Seattle, Bothell, unincorporated King County, or in a city with an Interlocal Agreement for Landmark Designation and Protection Services with King County.
Landmark nominations for historic places in King County. Funds support historic preservation consultant fees or other expenses related to nomination preparation and submission. Projects addressing underrepresented aspects of King County history and serving underrepresented communities receive additional priority.
Awards typically range from $1,000 to $10,000.
Applications are evaluated on: Quality of your preservation plan and alignment with best practices; Public benefit, including expanding understanding of historic places and contributing to long-term preservation; Advancing Equity through inclusive storytelling and engagement of underrepresented communities; and Feasibility, including ability to complete the nomination within 24 months on a reimbursement basis.
Application period is ongoing, with submissions accepted June 1 through December 1. Nomination must be completed within 24 months of award notification.

Projects may provide public benefit through free presentations, tours, or access to research materials (photographs, documentation, audio/video); public meetings or programs around King County; and groundwork for preservation planning for long-term viability of historic properties.
