The Free State of Bavaria, through the State Building Authority Nuremberg, is seeking professional visual artists and collectives from EEA countries to participate in a two-stage public art competition. Eight artists or artist collectives will be selected through an open application process to then compete in a closed design competition. The winning artist will create a permanent public art installation in the central courtyard of the newly built Center for Family and Social Services in Nuremberg.

The new Center for Family and Social Services (completed 2023) sits at the corner of Roonstraße and Bärenschanzstraße, forming a harmonious ensemble with a newly built parking structure and three existing buildings. The central courtyard requires a permanent artistic intervention to enhance it as a place for encounter, reflection, and quality of stay.

Open to professional visual artists and collectives from countries of the European Economic Area (EEA).

The procedure is a non-open design competition with a preceding open application phase under German procurement regulations. An evaluation committee will select eight artists or collectives from applications to participate in the closed competition stage.

A total project budget of €250,000 gross is available for realizing the art project. The eight selected participants each receive €3,000 including VAT as an honorarium covering travel costs, daily and accommodation expenses. No compensation is paid during the application phase.
