Individual artists and cultural practitioners working across disciplines are invited to apply for an in-person residency at Mátra Hiking Camp in Hungary from 14-28 September 2026, where 8 artists (5 international + 3 Hungary-based) will live and work together in a nature-based, camping environment to reimagine the campsite as an artistic, social, and cultural space.
Overview
Bethlen Square Theater in Hungary launches its second OASis residency at the Mátra Hiking Camp in a nature-based, rural environment where artists live and work together under camping conditions. The residency reimagines the campsite itself as an artistic, social, and cultural space, creating a dialogue between the downtown theatre and an off-site, nature-based location. Central question: How can a hiking campground become a cultural oasis? And how can an off-site residency be meaningfully connected to a downtown theatre?

Who may apply
Individual artists and cultural practitioners working across disciplines within the cultural and creative sectors. Applicants must be resident in a Creative Europe participating country (EU Member States and associated countries), have an active artistic or creative practice, and be able to work in English and in an international, collaborative environment.

Selection
A total of 8 artists will be selected: 5 international + 3 Hungary-based.
Support provided
- 1,300 EUR gross artist fee
