It is an exciting opportunity for artists outside of the collective to showcase their work in our gallery. Typically, this exhibition is reviewed, receives extensive press coverage from local media and is one of our best attended events of the year. Open Door is open to all North American residents working in any 2D/ 3D media and video. Only works completed within the past two years are eligible for submission.
This year’s Open Door submissions will be juried by Niall Bingham.
Born in Pietermaritzburg, South Africa, Niall Bingham studied Fine Art at the University of KwaZulu-Natal, completing a BAVA (Hons) in 2005. It was here, while studying printmaking under Vulindlela Nyoni, where he developed a passion for the medium. On an exchange year at Kansai Gaidai University in Hirakata, Japan he studied Japanese art, literature, and traditional studio techniques. Upon graduating, he moved to Johannesburg to work at the David Krut Print Workshop from 2006 to 2011, collaborating with leading South African artists including William Kentridge, Diane Victor, Willem Boshoff, and David Koloane. He later served as Printmaking Technician at the University of the Witwatersrand, and completed an MAFA there in 2016.
From 2020 to 2025, Bingham worked at Atelier Le Grand Village in southern France, whilst residing in Northern Spain. His commitment to printmaking is underscored by an ongoing dedication to improving his own methods of collaboration with artists and other printmakers. His recent artistic practice concerns itself with the intersection between nostalgia for, and the reality of life in his country of birth, South Africa. The work seeks to be self-aware enough to question the authenticity of memory. Now based in Minneapolis, Niall Bingham is a collaborative printmaker at Highpoint Centre for Printmaking.
The deadline for submissions is October 31st at midnight.
