Who Can Apply
Emerging and mid-career artists seeking time and space to create, experiment, and grow. Local and regional artists across disciplines welcome, including visual artists (painting, sculpture, printmaking, photography, mixed media), performing artists (theater, movement, spoken word), musicians with low-decibel instruments (solo acoustic, electronic, or experimental sound), literary artists (writers, poets, playwrights), and interdisciplinary/socially engaged artists.

What is Included
- 24-hour access to studio space (11 ft. × 22 ft.; single and double occupancy available)
- Shared welcome reception with food and drink
- Shuttle service to and from Alexandria Campus (limited routes)

- Stipend for workshops/classes taught: $45/hr (minimum 1.5 hours)
Awards & Support
General Residency: Free studio space and professional development support (2–3 artists selected); refundable key deposit required. Ignite Fellowship: Free studio space, professional development support, and $1,000 stipend for materials, transportation, or project expenses (one fellow selected); refundable key deposit required. Both tracks: artists receive $45/hr stipend (minimum 1.5 hours) for any workshops or classes taught.
Public Engagement
As part of the residency, artists are expected to share their work and creative process through at least one public-facing event. Options include Open Studio, Artist Talk or Panel Discussion, Workshop or Demonstration, Exhibition or Performance, or Community Collaboration. Formats are chosen in consultation with MCA staff. Resident Artists receive stipends for taught workshops or demonstrations at $45/hr (minimum 1.5 hours).
