About
Overview
This is an application guide for the Emerging Artist Grants program, providing tips and resources to help applicants write their application, prepare support materials, and avoid common mistakes.
Before You Begin
Read the entire How to Apply page carefully and compare your proposed project with what can and cannot be applied for. Ensure your project begins after the earliest commencement date of eligible projects for the funding round you are applying within. Download the application drafting documents. Applications must be completed via the application portal. Watch the video guide on YouTube and contact the program if you have questions about eligibility, your project, or support materials.
Writing Your Application
Describe your current art practice and project clearly and concisely. Compose your application in a separate document and proofread your answers before starting the application form. Use specific terms rather than generalizations. Avoid jargon and acronyms, assuming reviewers don't know what they mean. Explain the objectives of your project in detail, including goals, outcomes, and how it will benefit you at this stage of your career development. Carefully check each response to ensure it has answered the question.
Reference Letters
- Do not submit references without signatures or typed names only
- Do not submit two references from the same institution or organization
- Do not submit character references or references unrelated to your artistic practice
- Do not submit references from anyone at your proposed host institution or involved in the mentoring/tuition of the proposed project (these are considered confirmation letters)
Confirmation Letters
Submit letters of confirmation from all individual(s) or organization(s) with which you will be undertaking professional development. If your placement, study, lessons, workshops, mentorships etc. have not been confirmed by the application closing date, your application cannot be reviewed. Contact the education provider to obtain a conditional confirmation letter if a course only provides acceptance confirmations after the application deadline. Contact the program to discuss if you have issues obtaining letters by the closing date.
Budget & Itinerary
- Include a breakdown of all expenditure items: flights, public transport, accommodation, cultural expenses (conference fees, concert tickets, gallery passes), travel insurance, day-to-day living expenses, and study expenses
- Show the total funding requirements
- List anticipated funding sources (confirmed and unconfirmed), including your personal contribution
- Budget should not include artist fees, standard arts equipment purchases (use existing equipment or hire for the duration), rent and regular household bills at home that remain payable while away, or expenses for activities that occurred before your project start date
- Ensure budget figures add up and income and expenditure totals match
Support Material
All support material must be provided via a URL, which allows you to present examples of your work in high definition. Ensure URLs directly link to written material, images, video or audio without requiring further navigation or file downloads. Include any passwords required to access URLs in the Support Material Notes section. Regularly check that URLs are working through the assessment period. Provide examples that best demonstrate the quality of your past or present work and are relevant to the proposal.
Review Before Submission
Changes or corrections to your application or support material after submission are not permitted. Review all fields and check uploaded documents before submitting. Ensure your documents contain the required information, have clear labels, and are uploaded within the correct field. A confirmation and copy of your submission will be emailed to the address submitted in the application form.
Every listing links to the organizer's official page. Always confirm deadlines, fees, and entry rules there before you apply.
