About
Overview
The Residency at Casa Gràcia is a new residency program for visual artists and writers located in Mahón, capital of Menorca. Founded and developed by Rashid Johnson and Sheree Hovsepian, with support from the local team at Hauser & Wirth Menorca. The program takes place in Casa Gràcia, a historic house built in 1860 and restored in 2025. Residencies are self-directed and do not require production of a specific outcome or public presentation. The program promotes creative development, reflection, and connection with the local community.
Residency Types
- Three visual artists invited for periods of up to three months
- Two writers for stays of up to six months
- Visual artists have access to a large, newly renovated studio with high ceilings and abundant natural light
- Writers have a private floor of the residence including bedroom and study
- Some residents qualify to receive a stipend
Sustainability Commitment
All participants commit to sustainability practices: reduction of air travel, waste minimization, and respect for the environment and biodiversity of the island.
Advisory Board
The program is supervised by an advisory council including Katherine Brinson, Colson Whitehead, Patrick Radden Keefe, Hank Willis Thomas, and Iwan and Manuela Wirth, among others.
