Based in a rambling medieval half-timbered building overlooking the village square, the centre offers artists, makers, musicians, writers, and creative thinkers the opportunity to engage in creative exploration and exchange in an inspiring and supportive environment. The centre features eight private studio spaces, workshop spaces, event spaces, a gallery, café, and shop.

La Porte Peinte opened in September 2011 and is situated in Noyers sur Serein, celebrated as one of the 100 most beautiful villages in France and nestled in a pastoral landscape of cherry trees, wheat fields, rolling meadows, forests, and vineyards. The UNESCO heritage site Vezelay is 30 minutes away. The centre welcomes artists of all disciplines including painters, sculptors, photographers, filmmakers, writers, musicians, performers, and those working in digital media, installation, performance art, and other creative fields.
