Toronto Arts Council's Visual Artists Program: Creation provides support to visual artists who have a professional independent art practice for the creation or production of new work or the completion of works in progress. Funds are intended to cover direct costs of creation/production and materials. Visual Arts includes drawing, painting, sculpture, photography, mixed media, printmaking, performance art, installation and fine crafts.

  • $10,000 grant per project
  • Canadian citizen, permanent resident, or protected person
  • Toronto resident for at least 1 year prior to application deadline
  • Professional artist with specialized training, peer recognition, and history of public presentation/publication
  • Minimum 1 year working on independent art practice after completing full-time studies
  • Cannot pursue graduate studies related to the project
  • Must retain full copyright, financial and creative control
  • Individual artists may receive one discipline-stream project grant per calendar year
  • Only one open application per stream at a time
  • Projects completed prior to announcement of results
  • Travel or exhibition costs
  • Framing expenses
  • Capital purchases (tools, equipment)
  • Commissioned, instructional, or promotional projects

Submit online anytime through TAC Grants Online. You may submit only one application to this program during the year. You will receive notification of results approximately 4 months after submission; first notifications by March. Check spam/junk folders for results emails.

Projects involving Deaf artists and artists with disabilities may apply for an additional TAC Accessibility Grant providing up to $5,000 towards accessibility costs (ASL interpretation, audio description, closed captioning, communications assistants, attendant care, support workers, equipment rentals). Starting in 2026, grant recipients can apply for an Accessibility Grant as a separate application at any time during their project.
