Get matched →Urban Arts Residency supports art projects and artists working on projects with social impact. The organization hosts up to 4 artists in a residency located in a renewed colonial house in Downtown Guadalajara, Colonia Americana. At the end of their stay, artists typically have an exhibit or event to show the result of their work.
Guadalajara is Mexico's second-largest city with 8 million people. It offers a mild-to-hot climate during the day (around 25–30°C) and cool nights (10–20°C), surrounded by beautiful nature. The residency is located in a vivid community with galleries, historic buildings, restaurants, and bars all within walking distance.
The residency offers stays from one month up to six months; two months minimum is recommended for a full experience. The colonial house contains three studio/living spaces: Space A (two rooms—one bedroom 5×3m and one studio 4×4m, for solo or duo artists, or artists requiring separate sleeping and working areas) and Spaces B and C (each a spacious 5×6m bedroom/studio combination). All spaces feature natural light, basic furniture, and access to a central patio and shared living/dining room.
The residency welcomes artists in street art, visual art, literature, photography, architecture, sculpture, curation, film, research, textile work, performance, sound installation, and multimedia installations.
Each space costs 550 EUR per month (or equivalent in MXN or USD). General services (electricity, gas, internet, water) are covered. A 50 EUR monthly discount is offered for 2-month stays and a 100 EUR monthly discount for 3-month stays. Duo artists pay an additional 150 EUR per month and are assigned Space A. The organization supports artists with logistics, promotion of their final event, and recommendations for local galleries and events. Artists have access to a fully equipped kitchen.
Every listing links to the organizer's official page. Always confirm deadlines, fees, and entry rules there before you apply.
Priority is given to artists working on social topics (gentrification, immigration, equality, social justice, poverty, homelessness, gender rights), but artists with solid projects on other subjects are welcome. All resident artists are expected to work on their project and present a final event or exhibition.
