About
Overview
The Art Heritage Festival grant supports the presentation of visual art and/or heritage at festivals, biennales, triennales and similar events held in physical spaces. The grant is intended for activities that help reach a more diverse or broader audience for visual art and/or heritage, or for activities that meaningfully connect to the public in an engaging way. The event must have a supra-regional, national or international scope.
Who may apply
Non-profit organizations or collectives of legal entities based in the Netherlands or Caribbean part of the Kingdom. Institutions for art education and post-academic institutions are excluded. If a visual artist is involved, they must demonstrate at least 1 year of professional practice.
What qualifies
Festivals, biennales, triennales and similar events held in the Netherlands or Caribbean part of the Kingdom that are partly or wholly dedicated to the presentation of visual art and/or heritage. Events must be publicly accessible and held no more than once per year. Applications cannot be submitted for journals, publications, documentaries, symposia, conferences, or online festivals and events.
Funding
The amount of the contribution is determined per application. The Mondriaan Fund can contribute up to 40% of eligible project costs directly associated with the visual art and/or heritage activities. The minimum project budget must exceed €25,000 and may only include costs directly related to the project. Grants of €100,000 or more are highly exceptional; contact the Mondriaan Fund for such applications.
How to apply
Applications can be submitted at any time of the year using the online application system. An account is required before submitting an application. A 3-month period is required for processing applications. No grants are awarded retrospectively.
Budget requirements
Everyone included in the budget must be paid in accordance with applicable collective labour agreements or guidelines. If a visual artist is involved, realistic remuneration is obligatory and must be included in the budget. Artist's fees are eligible for funding. Support will not be provided for activities already funded through another Mondriaan Fund grant, a multi-year grant from a national cultural fund, or other specified funding sources.
Assessment
Mondriaan Fund staff check submitted applications for completeness. Complete applications are submitted to an advisory committee that evaluates the project plan, quality of the organisation, public reach, and cultural relevance. The Board of the Mondriaan Fund makes the final decision.
