Overview
Art Jameel and the British Council created the Anhar: Culture and Climate Platform to support cultural projects that meaningfully engage with the climate emergency in the MENA region. The programme helps artists and organisations experiment with creative approaches centred on local, community-based, and intersectional perspectives.
Award Tiers
- Tier 1: £1,000–£5,000 ($1,000–$6,000) for individual artists and collectives working on climate-related projects.
- Tier 2: £5,000–£10,000 ($6,000–$12,000) for cultural organisations to reduce carbon and waste through decarbonisation strategy development and renewable energy investments.
- Tier 3: £25,000–£50,000 ($30,500–$70,000) for collaborations between UK and MENA artists, collectives, networks, and/or cultural organisations on large-scale artistic responses, with at least part of the project in a MENA country.
Eligibility
Tier 1 and 2 are open to artists, collectives, and organisations in the MENA region. Tier 3 is for collaborations between UK and MENA partners.
Focus Areas
Projects should address the climate emergency through creative and community-centred approaches. Tier 2 emphasises organisational sustainability and decarbonisation. Tier 3 supports large-scale artistic responses with transnational collaboration.
