Get matched →The Rencontres d'Arles curatorial research grant, worth a maximum of 20,000 euros, supports exhibition curators developing original projects relating to image or photography. The selected project unfolds in two phases: a six-month research phase and, if approved, a production phase.
Open to all exhibition curators (individual or collective).
The curator receives 5,000 euros and has six months to conduct research. The budget and schedule must be submitted to Rencontres d'Arles management for approval. By September to mid-October 2027, the curator submits a file to the jury containing: an artistic statement (2,000 characters) presenting the photograph selection, a selection of works, details of display and reproduction rights, provisional budget, and reverse schedule. The Rencontres d'Arles then decides whether to approve the project for Phase 2.

If approved after Phase 1, the 15,000-euro production budget is managed by Rencontres d'Arles. The curator commits to selecting exhibition works, determining display/reproduction rights, drafting an introductory text, and being present during the festival's opening week and guided tour. Rencontres d'Arles covers exhibition design, communication, installation, dismantling, and security.
If the preliminary work is not approved, the curator may present the exhibition elsewhere but must credit Rencontres d'Arles 2027 curatorial research grant on all media. If approved for Rencontres d'Arles, a new contract will be signed between the curator and the organization. Texts must be in French or English, ideally both.
