Overview
The Museum of Northern California Art (monca) invites Northern California artists to submit proposals for a solo or small group exhibition in the Phillips Gallery. The Phillips gallery is 32'x27'. Artworks must have been produced primarily in Northern California, and artist(s) must currently reside in Northern California.

- March 11 - April 25, 2027 (6 weeks): Deliver by March 7, install March 8-10, opening March 12, deinstall April 25
- August 5 - September 19, 2027 (7 weeks): Deliver by August 1, install August 2-4, opening August 6, deinstall September 19
- September 23 - November 14, 2027 (8 weeks): Deliver by September 19, install September 20-22, opening September 24, deinstall November 14
- November 18, 2027 - January 9, 2028 (8 weeks): Deliver by November 14, install November 15-17, opening November 19, deinstall January 9
Eligibility
Open to artists living and working in Northern California. All artwork must be original with no AI-generated work. Artwork cannot have been previously exhibited at monca. Artist must be able to personally install and deinstall artwork or be present while designated team installs work.
Media & size
- Submit 8-12 images of proposed or representative works, or up to 6 video files
- Artwork must fit through doors with clearance of 95"h x 42.5"w
- Artwork may not be hung from ceiling
- Most walls use wire cable hanging system (nails not allowed); two walls allow nails, cleats, and screws
- Artwork must have hanging wire for cable system walls
- No weight limit, but works over 100 pounds should contact [email protected]

- Exhibition proposal narrative detailing vision, thematic focus, and specific equipment, technology, or electrical needs
- Artist CV with previous exhibitions and relevant information
- Dates and locations if work has been shown elsewhere
Jury & submissions
The jury is comprised of monca's exhibition committee, six diverse artists, and art collectors. One submission limit per artist.
Delivery & installation
All artwork must be hand delivered and installed by the artist or artist's designee. monca staff will not install or deinstall artwork. No work may be removed prior to the closing date once installed.
Sales & commission
As a museum, monca does not actively market artwork but does not discourage sales. A price list is maintained at the reception desk. monca handles all sales transactions and receives 50% commission from all sales.
