Skip to content Community Engagement Musqueam Village (IR2) Plan xʷqʷəlqʷəliwən ct ʔə tə sʔa:nɬ xʷəlməxʷThinking About Our Community (Village) The Musqueam Village (IR2) Plan is an extension of our Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP), and will help guide future development and protection of Musqueam lands at the heart of our community. In the CCP, we identified priorities and objectives for the future of Musqueam Village. These priorities addressed several community needs, including more and better housing, healthcare, and job opportunities, as well as steps toward self-governance, preserving history and culture, and providing resources for future generations. We have an update to share with Musqueam community members – including where we are in the planning process, and what steps you can look forward to next. Read the IR2 Plan Community Newsletter (December 2022) Since the workshop in June, the project team has been working hard to research and evaluate the ideas and suggestions that came from the community, and to create possible plans for different areas of the reserve. These plans lay out different development processes laid out by the Land Code so we can provide housing for our members, steward our land, and create revenue for our community. What does the future of Musqueam housing look like? We know housing is a top priority for our community. This survey will help the Musqueam’s housing department and Musqueam Village (IR2) Plan project team further understand the needs of Musqueam members and families for future development of member housing at Musqueam. It is important that this survey reaches as many Musqueam members as possible, both on and off reserve, so we can get a good picture of what the housing needs and preferences are for all our members. The Musqueam Village (IR2) Plan brings to life the vision and objectives identified in Musqueam’s Comprehensive Community Plan (CCP). Much like the CCP, this process will be community-driven, meaning that the master plan will reflect our community’s input. Specifically, this plan will take a community-focused approach to making decisions about the future development and preservation of the main Musqueam reserve. Isn’t this called the Musqueam Master Plan? The name for this project is the Musqueam Village (IR2) Plan. This decision was made to better reflect our community and language that makes sense for Musqueam. You might still see the term “master plan” used in some places. This just reflects the type of plan – focused on big picture planning for conservation, housing, community spaces, streets, and more. For example, the Musqueam Village (IR2) Plan will help us answer questions like: What should new housing for Musqueam members look and feel like? What kind of spaces do we need for things like healthcare, education, jobs, and recreation? How should new streets be designed that focus on safety and accessibility for youth and elders? And many more! Musqueam people have always planned and used our land to meet our community needs. This workshop is an opportunity to sq̓əq̓ip – to gather together and share our ideas, listen to each other and learn from each other.
