About the Candidate
Wanda Koller was born in 1988 in Düsseldorf and grew up in Meerbusch. After graduating from Comenius Gymnasium, she studied sculpture with an emphasis on architecture at Kunstakademie Düsseldorf from 2008–2013 under Prof. Hubert Kiecol and from 2013–2014 under Rita McBride, graduating with a master's degree and the Award of the Friends and Sponsors of the Academy. She has received stipendiums from the DHCS Studio Programme in Reisholz, the Derik-Baegert Society at Schloss Ringenberg, and a travel grant from the City of Düsseldorf to Moscow. She has participated in art exchange in Seoul, South Korea, led an exhibition project in 2017 in a vacant apartment, and has experience with artist cooperations, group actions, and performances. She is engaged in art mediation and educational formats, with strong interest in public art projects with clear local connection.
Statement
She is running for the Art Commission because she wants to participate in far-reaching cultural policy decisions and thinks across preserving and renewing perspectives. She sees art as communication and connection, understanding public space as valuable and worth living in for all participants.
