About
Overview
WIELS offers visual artists a unique working environment in the dynamic context of the arts centre in Brussels, with nine individual studios of about 45m² each. The Mondriaan Fund selects two artists annually to work for half a year each in a WIELS studio. The residency provides a place to work in an autonomous environment with professional feedback, interaction with the international contemporary art scene, weekly discussions with mentors, and open public presentations.

- 1 artist or duo per period
Eligibility
Visual artists may apply. For duos or collaborative partnerships, each person must apply separately. A duo is defined as 2 artists, 2 curators/observers, or a combination thereof who structurally create work together and must live and work together in one space during the residency.
Award
- €14,492 subsidy per artist for travel, material, and living costs
- 10% personal contribution required (deducted from subsidy automatically)
- Studio rental and living space costs covered by Mondriaan Fund
- Support from WIELS provided directly
- Duos receive proportionally increased amount
- Higher travel costs for Caribbean residents considered per situation
How to Apply

Selection
Selection made by advisory committee based on submitted documents. Committee proposes candidates to WIELS, which makes final decision. Interview may be part of selection process. Processing time may exceed three months.
