Art Residency in Guatemala

Overview

GRACIA is an interdisciplinary residency located in a private home in the outskirts of Antigua Guatemala that hosts and collaborates with international and local artists and non-artists across all fields to support research, creation and connection surrounding creative work, process and purpose. The program is focused on your creative practice and all the ways it can manifest, providing research assistance and guidance towards project development and local resources.

Accommodation & Studio

Each resident will have a private room and studio in La Casita, a house of creation and gathering place opened in 2023 to foster connection. The space welcomes interdisciplinary artists, makers, and creatives from around the world, generating an international network in a sustainable environment.

What's Included

• Initial call one month prior to residency
• Housing with private room, amenities and wifi
• Individual studio with a desk and wall space
• Weekday (Monday through Friday) breakfast with fresh & local ingredients
• Assistance with research development, local introductions and navigation of the area
• Weekly resident meetings to share work, engage in conversation and learn from each other
• Photo documentation of your process
• Opportunity to share your process with the community via artist lecture or workshop
• Guatemala City Airport pick-up and transportation upon arrival & departure for residency dates

Fees

• General: $1,150 USD
• Citizens of Latin America, Asia, Africa and the Caribbean: $1,050 USD
• Guatemalan diaspora: $950 USD
• Citizens of Guatemala: $790 USD

What You'll Do

Residents work independently on their proposed project or research. Residents are also encouraged to do nothing, to rest, to not work, to read one book slowly, or to go into town every day and explore. You may design this residency however you wish. The program provides assistance with project development and research to create a platform of support, conversation, reflection, and accessibility.

Eligibility

Open to all beings from all races, all religions, all countries of origin, all sexual orientations, all genders, all abilities. Previous residents have included filmmakers, painters, photographers, writers, and others. Applicants are encouraged to consider how their work or research will interact with Guatemala's vast history from Mayan culture and indigenous communities to the current post-civil war society, and to reflect on their role and responsibility as a maker learning and creating in a new country.
