Overview
Seeing Red: A Juried Winter Exhibition. Red is humanity's oldest, most primordial pigment. For this winter's juried exhibition, artists are invited to subvert, celebrate, and explore the vast, paradoxical history of this intoxicating hue. Juror: Donna Seager.
Theme & Inspiration
Explore red through five dimensions: Seed of Life & Deadly Beauty (prehistoric red ochre to Renaissance vermilion and cinnabar); The Garment of Power (scarlet of emperors, dragons, cardinals); Sacrifice & Seduction (sacred and profane, blood and passion); Revolution & Liberty (political uprising and freedom); Protection & Prosperity (Eastern bridal wear, protective talismans). Your work may confront the viewer with a screaming, immersive field of pure crimson or feature a single, calculated spark of cadmium in an otherwise quiet, monochromatic landscape.

- Artwork to be picked up on December 28 and 29, 2026, 11:00 AM – 5:00 PM; no exceptions. Artwork storage is not available.
Eligibility
- Artists must be 18 years old and residing in the USA
- Work cannot have been previously shown at Epperson Gallery
- All artwork must be for sale
- All work must be entirely one of a kind originals
Media & Size
- Maximum 60 inches in width and 60 pounds
- No AI-generated, assisted, or enhanced work
- No digitally rendered, digitally altered, or digitally printed work
- 3D printed sculptures are not accepted; all 3D sculptures must be one of a kind originals
- No giclees, offset lithographs, or reproductions of any kind
- Hand-pulled prints must be pulled by the hand of the artist, numbered, dated, and signed on the front
- Photographs must be signed and numbered on the front
- Weavings must be woven by the hand of the artist; no machine or digitally rendered work is accepted
Submission Requirements
Submit 1–3 images of your artwork. Capitalize the first letters of all names, titles, and medium in application—labels for the exhibition will come directly from this form.
Presentation & Framing
- 2D work must be framed or gallery-wrapped (minimum 1.5 inches deep, no visible staples, sides must be completely clean or painted)
- Hanging hardware must be ready to hang with D-rings and wire (sawtooth hangers will not be accepted)
- Back of all 2D work must clearly display the artist's name, artwork title, and medium
