Petrichor occurs when rain hits dry earth. Right now, amidst the sharp clawback of transgender rights across Kansas (and the US), we believe that just such a transformative experience is needed. Let’s turn resistance into creation and amplify the very voices that institutions are attempting to silence. For our debut issue, we are explicitly dedicating our cover to trans, nonbinary, and queer creators rooted in Kansas and the greater KCMO metro area. While our press has a global distribution network, our heart is local. We want your visual art—not just to tell incredible stories, but to serve as a catalyst for local visibility, renaissance, and revolution. General Submission Guidelines & Details: ● Visual Art: One to three images of visual art. Files should be JPGs, PNGs, or similar file type. Screen resolution for initial submission of 300 dpi or less is fine — if an image is accepted for publication, we may request a higher resolution file. We’re also open to hybrid/blends/mashups – just submit as “best fit” form and elaborate in your cover. You can also submit in multiple forms. ● Submission Period for Inaugural Cover Issue Consideration: closes August 21, 2026. Submission for general calls of visual art will remain open. ● Application Fee: None As a young nonprofit press, we cannot offer monetary payment for this inaugural issue, and we know launching a piece of your art with a new publication is an act of trust. To honor that partnership, we offer the following to nourish the long-term life of your work: ● Permanent Placement: Your work will be permanently featured in our dedicated online inaugural showcase. ● Award Nominations: We nominate for Best of the Net. ● Tear Sheets: each artist will receive a high-resolution PDF of their featured work ● Artist Spotlights/Career Cultivation: We’ll foster your continued publication endeavors by including interview spotlights, a publication “press kit” so you don’t have to spend all your time marketing (you can get back to creating!), and we’ll place an active link next to your featured work that leads viewers to your website, print shop, and/or socials of choice.
