Overview
Hambidge provides a self-directed creative residency program in the mountains of north Georgia. The oldest residency program in the Southeast, Hambidge honors the creative process on 600 forested acres with private accommodations, studio space, nature trails, meadows, and waterfalls. Residents come from all creative disciplines and backgrounds, and the center is family-friendly.

Eligibility
Open to professional-level artists at any stage of career from anywhere in the world. Hambidge seeks applications from emerging, mid-career, and established creatives. Returning fellows must wait 2 years before reapplying.
Disciplines
Hambidge accepts applications across all creative disciplines, including visual arts (painting, drawing, printmaking, sculpture, ceramics, metalwork, jewelry, textiles, mixed media, photography, digital arts, installation, public art), performing arts (music, dance, theater, choreography), literary arts (writing, poetry, fiction, nonfiction, playwriting), and many others.
Residency experience
Residents receive private accommodations and studio space. Small cohorts share communal dinners prepared by the Hambidge chef. Private studios, dance studio, piano, ceramics workspace with various kilns, and music/media studio are available. Partially accessible housing and studios (50% or more).
Fees and financial assistance
- Application fee: $30
- Residency fee: $250 per week (the actual cost is $2,250/week; Hambidge supplements $2,000/week)
- Merit-based Distinguished Fellowships: remove fees for two-week residency and provide $700 stipend (vary by session)
- Limited financial aid scholarships available; priority given to BIPOC residents
Application requirements
Applications are judged primarily on the quality of submitted work samples and professional promise. There are no publication, exhibition, or performance requirements. Returning fellows must submit a new application with recent work samples.
Additional opportunities
Residents may be asked to donate a work of art, participate in public programming, participate in open studio with fellow residents, and/or give an artist talk or presentation.
