The prize includes an exhibition at the Foundation featuring works from 6 students (1 per participating university) whose applications were submitted to the selection committee. The objective is to reward visual arts students with exceptional academic records and artistic practices addressing environmental concerns, and to encourage visual artists in the process of professionalization.
The program is open to 3rd-year bachelor's and master's visual arts students enrolled in a Quebec university offering a graduate program in visual arts. These universities are: Concordia University, Université du Québec à Chicoutimi, Université du Québec à Montréal, Université du Québec à Trois-Rivières, Université du Québec en Outaouais, and Université Laval. Students must have been residents of Quebec for at least 3 years. Visual arts include professionally recognized practices such as photographic, installation, sculptural, pictorial, graphic, and performative arts, as well as sound, digital, and media arts.
The prize is CA$3,000. An award ceremony will be organized at the Grantham Foundation with representatives from the Pierre Mantha Foundation. The Grantham Foundation commits to presenting the annual Horizons nouveaux exhibition featuring the works of the 6 selected students (1 per university). The Foundation also commits to offering exhibition and reproduction rights royalties for the 6 artists, covering travel expenses, promoting the exhibition, organizing a public vernissage, providing curatorial support, and producing documentation by a professional photographer. Artwork selection for the exhibition will be made in summer 2026 by the curator from each student's completed body of work. The laureate's host university commits to producing a video capsule on the student's artistic process and work, to be presented on the Foundation's website and social media.
