Research & Innovation, the College of Liberal Arts, and the Reynolds School of Journalism offer competitive funding to support interdisciplinary research and creative activity of tenure/tenure-track faculty. Projects may involve early-stage development of collaborative scholarly or creative work that could lead to larger external grants.

  • Up to $8,000
  • 12-month project period from date of award
  • Projects must be led by tenure/tenure-track faculty in College of Liberal Arts or Reynolds School of Journalism
  • Faculty from other units may serve as co-PIs or collaborators
  • Dean approval required if collaborators from other institutions are included
  • Allowable: Equipment or materials purchases, participant support costs or graduate/undergraduate student assistance, travel-related expenses
  • Unallowable: Course buyouts, summer salary, hosting
  • Project description (3-page limit): specific aims/objectives, background and significance, approach/methodology, project timeline, and future funding strategy
  • Budget and budget justification (2-page limit) in table format with total requested amount and one-to-one cost share if applicable; budget narrative required
  • CV or biosketch in field-customary format
  • Letter from your chair positioning the project's importance to your field and career
  • Optional: Letter indicating voluntary cost share source, signed by authorized individual

Cost share is not required. Voluntary cost share may be included with a letter detailing the source, signed by an authorized individual.
