Overview
The sƛ̓x̣etkʷ Artist-in-Residence Program at Spokane Falls Community College supports cultural preservation, empowerment, community building, and professional growth for emerging Native American artists. The annual three-month residency includes lodging, artist stipends, and access to state-of-the-art studio space in the sƛ̓x̣etkʷ Fine and Applied Arts Building 32.

Eligibility
Applications are open to emerging Native American artists who are enrolled members of a US Federally Recognized Tribe (FRT). Priority is given to Tribes of the Pacific Northwest, Washington state tribes, and the Schistu'umsh (Coeur d'Alene Tribe of Indians). 'Emerging' is defined as artists without gallery representation. Applicants need not have formal training but should have previous experience creating in their preferred medium.
Media & Studio Access
- Ceramics, drawing, metals/jewelry, painting, printmaking, digital art, sculpture, and mixed media
- Five to ten images of prior work required (5 images minimum, 10 images maximum)
Stipend & Support
The three-month residency includes a $3,000.00 monthly stipend ($9,000 total), off-campus housing, studio space, and travel reimbursement to and from Spokane, WA.
Professional Development & Community Engagement
The artist will have an office space and access to Fine Art Department studios. Educational and professional development opportunities, connections with students, and community engagement are available at the artist's discretion. Options include facilitated open studio hours, technical demonstrations or lectures, art critique participation, and apprenticeship with the Gallery Program Director in exhibition and curatorial processes.
