Get matched →The City of Wayzata is seeking proposals for four temporary outdoor sculptures to be displayed on Lake Street East in Downtown Wayzata from May 2027 to May 2028. Proposals will be selected by the Wayzata Public Art Committee. Selected artists will receive a $1500 stipend.
Sculptures should complement Lake Street downtown charm and fit into the character of the downtown. The preferred themes include, but are not limited to, Native American heritage, lake life, ecology and nature, and youthfulness/playfulness.
Each artist will receive a $1500 stipend awarded in two different sums: $1000 when the art is installed and $500 when the art is deinstalled or purchased by a third party. Costs of materials, installation, transportation, insurance, and maintenance upon the city’s request are included in the stipend amount. If the artist wishes, the sculptures may be made available for purchase from the artist while displayed. The city will retain a 25% commission on any sculptures sold.
The sculptures will be displayed for approximately one year, from May 2027 to May 2028. The duration of the display can be extended if agreed upon by the city and the artist.
Sculptures will be placed in Panoway on Lake Street East in Wayzata, Minnesota. Sculptures must be designed to fit within the dimensions of the designated concrete mounting pad. All locations have a 4-foot by 4-foot concrete mounting pad, besides Location #2 which will have a 3-foot by 3-foot concrete mounting pad. Sculptures designed for Location #2 should preferably incorporate a pedestal. Each sculpture must include 2-inch by 4-inch mounting tabs welded to the sculpture. Artists will be responsible for drilling 3/8-inch by 2 ½-inch holes into the concrete pad.
Artists should recognize that the sculptures will be located outside in close proximity to Lake Minnetonka and will be subject to environmental conditions and the potential for vandalism. Sculptures shall be constructed of durable materials and securely installed to withstand these conditions throughout the duration of the display period.
