Overview

The Artist in Residence Programme at MuseumsQuartier Vienna, supported by ERSTE Foundation, offers research-focused residencies for artists and curators from Central, Eastern, and Southeastern Europe. Participants work in critical contemporary visual art and have the opportunity to live and work in a MuseumsQuartier studio in Vienna's heart, taking a break from production pressure to concentrate on specific research interests.

Eligibility

• Artists and curators from Croatia, Czech Republic, Hungary, Romania, Slovak Republic, Slovenia, and Ukraine
• Working in the field of critical contemporary visual art
• Previous recipients of this residency or ERSTE Foundation programs (Fellowships for Curators and Artists, Salzburg Summer Academy, WHW Akademija Zagreb) will not be given priority

Residency Dates

• Ukraine: January–February 2027
• Romania: March–April 2027
• Slovakia: March–April 2027
• Czechia: May–June 2027
• Slovenia: May–June 2027
• Hungary: July–August 2027
• Croatia: September–October 2027

Award

• Monthly stipend: EUR 1,300
• One-time travel grant: EUR 300 (non-EU residents: EUR 500)

Application Requirements

• Complete digital application form (https://tally.so/r/2Ex0Lb)
• Portfolio (max. 10 MB, separate PDF)
• Letter of intent explaining why you apply, what you expect, and what you would like to focus on during the residence (max. 5,000 characters)
• Brief informative curriculum vitae (max. 1 page)
• Letter of intent and CV should be combined in one PDF document

Additional Information

Residency apartments offer both living and working space but do not provide room for large-scale artistic works. Pets are not permitted. Accepted candidates are required to submit a written report after completing the residence.
