About
Program Overview
Kimmel Harding Nelson Center for the Arts hosts working artists in rural Nebraska City. Each residency is 2 to 8 weeks long, accommodating up to five residents at a time in a mix of visual artists, writers, and composers. The historic town sits along the Missouri River and is Nebraska's oldest incorporated city, featuring tree-lined brick streets, museums, and festivals year-round.
What You Receive
- $175 per week stipend
- Private bedroom and bathroom
- Individual studio or study space
- Shared kitchen and living space with one other resident (composers receive their own efficiency apartment)
- Food stipend provided
- Access to studios with specialized equipment: painting workspace with easels, printmaking workspaces with drying racks and large sinks, woodworking tools including bandsaw, piano, printers and scanner, music/media studio
Eligibility
Open to artists at any stage of career based anywhere in the world. Pets are not allowed. Collaborative residencies require each participant to apply and be accepted individually.

Residency housing is a private bedroom in a shared housing facility on campus. The facility is partially accessible (50% or more).

- Participate in open studio with fellow residents
- Give artist talk or presentation
Key Dates
- Application Deadline: September 1, 2026
- KHN hosts two application cycles each year: March 1st and September 1st
- March deadline determines awards for July–December of the current year
- September deadline determines awards for January–June of the following year
Application Information
All applications must be submitted through the online application portal (Slideroom). Application fee is $35. In the most current year, 69 artists were accepted from a pool of 543 applicants.
