About
Overview
Gallery 4Culture showcases contemporary art by outstanding independent artists living in King County. The 1,000-square-foot exhibition space is located on the street level of the 4Culture administrative offices in Pioneer Square, Seattle, and is open weekdays 9:00am to 5:00pm. Opening receptions take place on First Thursday as part of the art walk.
Opportunity
Gallery 4Culture seeks solo, collaborative, and group exhibition proposals in a broad range of media for the next season running September 2026 through August 2027. Six shows, each approximately six weeks in length, will be presented by King County-based artists. Emerging artists and those whose approach to studio practice is underrepresented in commercial venues are encouraged to apply. Installation and site-responsive artwork will be prioritized.
Award
Selected artists, teams, and groups receive a $2,000 honorarium to help defray expenses, curatorial direction, and communications/PR support. Artists are welcome to offer their works for sale; 4Culture takes no commission on any sales.
Eligibility
- Visual artists, collaborative teams, and artist groups working in all media and genres (except performance art)
- Must reside in King County, WA
- Cannot be represented by a commercial art gallery at time of submission
- Members of artist-run collectives and cooperative galleries welcome to apply
- Artists who have exhibited at Gallery 4Culture in solo or 2-person shows are ineligible to reapply for three seasons
- Current 4Culture Board members, Advisory Committee members, employees, and immediate family members of all the above are not eligible
Application Materials
- Demographic information for the current year
- Two-page maximum artist résumé (PDF or text file, less than 2 MB)
- Proposal statement up to 300 words describing your art practice, proposed exhibition content and scope, medium, method, and concept; clarify if work samples represent the proposed exhibition or vary significantly
- Work samples: 10 total (work samples 1–7 as digital images; work samples 8–10 may be digital images or video/audio URLs)
- Digital images: JPG files only, 1920 pixels on longest side (suggested), at least 72 dpi, less than 2 MB
- Audio/video: up to 3 URLs via SoundCloud, Vimeo, or YouTube, publicly accessible, cumulative run-time up to 3 minutes
