Open Call: Museum of Homeland

Overview

Museum of Homeland is a virtual archive collecting objects people brought with them when moving to another country. Everyday objects become carriers of memory, personal history, and connection to home. The project invites anyone with migration experience to participate and share their stories.

Eligibility

Anyone with migration experience is welcome to participate, regardless of country of origin, destination, background, age, or artistic profession. You do not need to be an artist or writer to submit.

What to Submit

• 1–5 photographs of an everyday object you brought with you when moving to another country
• A short text about the object, from a few sentences to a short story
• Text can address: What is this object? Why did you bring it? What memory or connection does it hold? How has its meaning changed after migration?
• Submissions welcome in any language; translation provided if needed
• Phone photographs welcome; good lighting and neutral background preferred

Key Dates

• Deadline: 18 July 2026
• Rolling submissions and reviews (no fixed deadline)
• Response time: usually 1–2 weeks after submission

Selection Criteria

Submissions are selected based on their connection to the themes of migration, memory, belonging, and personal history. Sincerity and personal meaning are more important than perfect writing or professional photography.

Rights & Usage

By submitting, you agree to publication on the Museum of Homeland website and affiliated platforms. Materials may be used on social media and in presentations related to the exhibition. The project will lightly edit text for proofreading or minor shortening without changing meaning. Materials are not used for commercial purposes and are not shared with third parties.

Submission Limits & Payment

• One object and story per participant at this time
• Participation is unpaid; Museum of Homeland is currently a non-commercial independent project
