Overview
Art in the Community is a program by North Van Arts offering solo exhibition opportunities for emerging and professional visual artists in three public venues across Metro Vancouver during 2027.
Exhibition Venues & Guidelines
- District Library Gallery at Lynn Valley Main Library (2D only)
- District Foyer Gallery at North Vancouver District Hall (2D and 3D)
- City Atrium Gallery at North Vancouver City Hall (2D and 3D)
Key Dates
- Deadline to submit: September 25, 2026, 5pm PST
- Applicants notified by: October 30, 2026
- Exhibition dates: Within 2027 calendar year
Eligibility
Both emerging and professional artists are welcome. Artists must be located in Metro Vancouver to apply; priority is given to artists from the North Shore. The organizer especially encourages applications from Indigenous Peoples, People of Color, 2SLGBTQIA+ individuals, and people with disabilities.
2D Artwork Requirements
- Minimum 24″ x 36″; maximum 48″ x 72″
- Must have two eyehooks, D-rings, eyelets or equivalent on the back, installed ¼ inch from the top
- Minimum 10 artworks available for exhibition
- AI images will not be accepted
3D Artwork Requirements
- Must fit within two display cases (each 35.5″ x 35.5″ with 14.5″ door width)
- Must be labeled with artist's name and artwork title on back or bottom
Application Materials
- One-page exhibition theme/concept outline
- Artist's statement and biography (no more than 400 words each)
- List of proposed works with title, date, medium, size (in inches), and price
- Up to 16 high-resolution images of proposed artworks
- All artwork must be available for exhibition at time of application
Selection & Outcomes
Submissions will be reviewed by jury and assessed on alignment with the open call theme. Selected artists must install artwork in-person during the scheduled installation period and keep work displayed for the entire exhibition duration (8-12 weeks). North Van Arts does not pay artist fees but retains a 35% administrative commission on sales. Due to high submission volume, individual feedback is not provided to rejected applicants.
