Overview
Medialab Matadero opens the call for the fifth edition of its annual Situated Research Residencies 2027 program. The space will select three research and creation projects that explore the relationships between contemporary art, design, science, technology and society from a critical, experimental and collaborative approach. Proposals must be positioned at the margins or intersections of disciplines, methodologies and knowledge, and explicitly connect to one or more of the thematic axes developed in Medialab's recent programs.

Thematic Focus

Eligibility
The call is directed to individuals or collectives researching in design, art, architecture, urbanism, economics, film, photography, journalism, digital media, environmental sciences, philosophy, engineering, social studies, political sciences, programming, materials science, activism or other related fields. Applications may be submitted in Spanish or English.
Award and Support
- €10,000 gross stipend
- Access to Fablab infrastructure, technical materials, and individual workspace
- Logistical and conceptual support from Medialab team for public activities
Residency Format
The residency runs January to July 2027, conducted on-site in Madrid, with long stays recommended between March and June. No finished project delivery is required; the program values public knowledge production in formats such as manuals, documentaries, essays, or audiovisual records of collective learning. Selected projects must schedule public activities—seminars, workshops, conversations—with support from the Medialab team.
