About
Overview
USArtists International supports in-person performances by individual U.S. artists and ensembles across dance, music, and theater at international festivals, performing arts markets, and other eligible engagements outside the United States. The program aims to develop and expand the careers of U.S. performers through connections with presenters, curators, and fellow artists while promoting cross-cultural exchange.
Award
- Grants of up to $11,000 toward eligible expenses
- Requires a one-to-one cost match (50% grant support, 50% applicant match)
Eligibility
- Must be an individual artist or ensemble working professionally in dance, music, or theater
- Must be a U.S. citizen or permanent resident; at least half of all performers must have U.S. citizenship or green card status
- Age 18 or older; not participants from instructional, teaching, or academic programs
- Must currently reside in the U.S. or its territories
- Cannot be involved in curation, programming, administration, or management of the festival or engagement
- Must be in good standing with Mid Atlantic Arts
- Cannot have received a USAI grant within the last 12 months
- Applicants without 501(c)(3) status must apply as individuals and will receive a 1099; fiscal sponsorship is no longer allowed
International Tour Requirements
- Minimum one engagement; up to three engagements included in application (tours may have more, but only three reviewed)
- At least one engagement must be at an international festival or performing arts market that is curated or juried
- If including more than one engagement, they must be continuous with no travel back to the U.S. between engagements
- All engagements must pay an artist fee (except at Performing Arts Markets)

Grant Match Requirements
Grants must be matched on a 1:1 basis. Your cost share is 50% of eligible project expenses up to the maximum grant limit, plus all remaining costs. The required match can include confirmed artist fees from festivals, additional festival funds, personal or organizational funds, or funds from other non-federal funders. The match may not include federal funds or in-kind contributions.
