About
Overview
Alchemy is an artist-led international residency offering artists time and space to explore the intersections of creative practice, place and community. Founded in 2015 on the Toronto Islands, Alchemy's pillars are food, art, garden, and table. Participants engage in dedicated studio time, site-specific exploration, lively salon-style suppers, and conversation in a respectful and supportive environment.
Location & Setting
Gibraltar Point Centre for the Arts is located in the Toronto Islands—the largest car-free community in North America, 15 minutes by ferry from downtown Toronto.

Eligibility & Program Details
Open to artists of any career stage based anywhere in the world. May apply individually or as a team (must apply and be accepted individually). Disciplines include visual arts, painting, drawing, sculpture, installation, mixed media, photography, film, performance, dance, writing, ceramics, textiles, and many others.
Fees & Funding
- Application Fee: $25 CAD (non-refundable), payable by EFT or PayPal to [email protected]; contributes to 2027 bursary funding
- Residency Fee: $1,100 CAD (plus applicable taxes)
- Bursary funding available; letters of support provided for external funding applications
- Artist fees paid for those who design and lead a community workshop
Additional Opportunities
Participants are invited to participate in public programming, open studio with fellow residents, give artist talks, lead workshops for the public or fellow residents.
