The residency provides free housing, studio space, basic tools, wifi, a bicycle, and a material budget for 3-month periods. Travel costs and living expenses are not covered.
Visual artists in any discipline who can communicate in English and are open to collaborative projects with other artists, cultural institutions, or local communities. Artists must not reside in the Netherlands.
Applicants should explain why they wish to undertake the residency in Enschede, the importance of this location, and how they will engage with the local environment or communities in their work.
The studio and living space are combined and private, including a kitchen, sleeping area, and studio space. The shower is private; the toilet is shared with other artists in the studio building.
Submit an application form in English through the ARE website (www.areholland.com), together with current work samples and a project proposal.
Each artist will have the opportunity for a solo exhibition or presentation at the end of the residency. Some form of public presentation is obligatory.
