Southern arts organizations apply for grants up to $10,000 to support community engagement projects involving visiting artists from within the South Arts region.
Program Overview
Arts in Community Grants support deeper engagements between Southern communities and artists through funding for arts organizations. Grants up to $10,000 support Southern film directors, traditional artists, visual artists, performing artists, and writers. Eligible projects require a Southern artist/company visiting another Southern state for public activities, offering access to arts programming by professional artists.

- Traditional arts (music, dance, storytelling, visual arts/crafts)
- Visual arts (crafts, drawing, experimental, painting, photography, sculpture, mixed media)
- Performing arts (theater, music, opera, musical theater, dance)
- Literary arts (fiction, creative nonfiction, poetry)
Project Requirements
Projects require an artist or artist ensemble and a host or partner organization. Project must include at least two in-person or live, virtual public activities: a public presentation (film screening, performance, reading, or exhibition) and an educational/community engagement activity (workshop, demonstration, lecture, facilitated discussion, or master class).
Eligibility Requirements
- Be a tax-exempt 501(c)(3) nonprofit, governmental unit, or federally recognized tribal community
- Be based in South Arts' nine-state region: Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Kentucky, Louisiana, Mississippi, North Carolina, South Carolina, Tennessee
- Have a Unique Entity Identifier (UEI)
- Provide a dollar-for-dollar cash match
- Guest artist must reside in South Arts region but in a different state than project location
- Guest artist/company must have no professional or personal affiliation with host/partner
Award & Funding
Grants up to $10,000 based on artist fee. The grant requires a dollar-for-dollar cash match (e.g., a $10,000 request requires a $10,000 cash match for a $20,000 total artist fee).
