Kolaj Institute’s Collage Publishing Workshop is a four-week virtual/online workshop for artists interested in developing publications from a body of work or a project. It serves self-motivated artists at any career stage who want to expand their collage-based practice and pursue professional goals. Participants will explore how a book can function as a place to experience collage and how publishing relates to exhibitions and the wider history of art publishing. The workshop considers different publishing models and formats, including zines, art catalogs, monographs, and books, with a focus on projects intended for mass production and distribution. Artists will develop their publishing projects, present page spreads, and receive feedback. Presentations address copyright and appropriation, printing, and launching and marketing a publication. Participants will finish with a publishing project or a detailed plan for one and a deeper understanding of how publishing can support their practice.
Ric Kasini Kadour, a writer, artist, publisher, cultural worker, and editor and publisher of Kolaj Magazine, is listed as faculty for the workshop.
Online/Virtual
The cost for the workshop is $600 USD. Limited grants are available to help offset the fee and reduce barriers to participation, particularly for artists from places facing historic economic disadvantages.
