About
About the Exhibition
Where Form Meets the Boundless is presented by Jig Art in Vancouver, showcasing work by five Taiwanese artists (Ming-Shun Cho, Yu-Ying Huang, Ming-hsiang Hsu, Shanyin Lee, and Chen-Long Lin) and four Canadian artists (Amy Chang, Wei Cheng, Ying-Yueh Chuang, and Debra Sloan). The exhibition explores the role of culture in shaping ceramic artistic production, with much of the Taiwanese work focusing on functional tea wares that reflect historical appreciation, technical knowledge, and cultural importance.
Featured Artists
Chen-Long Lin is a respected teacher, artist, and glaze master who studied with important Taiwanese artists and established his studio in 1979. His work shifts between functional forms and conceptual sculptures, including the Earth Series and Clay Rhythm series with luminous celadons, and the Stone Reborn series which incorporates geological references. Yu-Ying Huang presents functional tea wares and vases, reviving the Song Dynasty technique of leaf tenmoku, and creating the Lavender Fields series inspired by French landscapes. Ming-hsiang Hsu draws inspiration from traditional architecture, using city gates, arches, tiles, and bricks to connect ancient and contemporary worlds through ceramic forms.
