The European Festivals Fund for Emerging Artists (EFFEA) is an initiative of the European Festivals Association supported by the Creative Europe programme of the European Union. It offers emerging artists a platform to establish themselves internationally through artist-in-residence programmes co-produced by festivals across Europe.

A residency programme aimed at fostering the international careers of emerging artists, co-produced by a leading festival in collaboration with partner festivals from different eligible countries (minimum 3 festivals). Artists receive dedicated time, space, and support to explore their ideas and creative projects while building connections with festival programmers, colleagues, and audiences.

  • EFFEA Discovery: For artists at early stages of their careers with strong potential to break through internationally. 40 grants of €8,000 awarded.
  • EFFEA Springboard: For artists already established in their own country and ready to develop careers internationally. 10 grants of €15,000 awarded.

Emerging artists proposed by eligible European festivals. The EFFEA Fund defines emerging artists not by age but by their novelty to programmers and audiences and their potential for international breakthrough. This includes individual artists and groups across various artistic disciplines.

  • Offer emerging artists opportunities to present work and develop careers internationally
  • Offer festivals cross-border cooperation opportunities on emerging artists
  • Provide audiences access to new and diverse artistic encounters through festival platforms
  • Time and space to develop ideas
  • Network of programmers and local artists in different countries
  • Residencies, seminars, workshops, and masterclasses
  • European visibility and capacity-building
  • New presentation contexts
