Two-phase art-in-architecture competition for the renovated Augsburg State and City Library. Phase 1 (concept sketches) runs from 20 July to 11 September 2026. Phase 2 involves selected artists developing their designs for implementation, anticipated in Q4 2027.

Eligibility

The assignment
The Augsburg State and City Library is a regional research library and archive, housing collections focused on Augsburg and Bavarian-Swabia history and knowledge. The neoclassical building dates from 1892. Artists are invited to develop a concept for Site 1 (exterior grounds, adjacent to the new extension entrance), Site 2 (interior, at the ends of the reading room), or both sites in combination.
Compensation and budget
Phase 1 participation is unpaid. Phase 2 selected artists receive 3,000 EUR incl. VAT. The realized artwork budget is up to 250,000 EUR incl. VAT.
