Athens Residency

Overview

The Athens Residency is ARCAthens' flagship program offering fully-funded opportunities for visual artists, curators, and scholars to live and work in Athens, Greece. The program is structured and research-driven, built around scheduled engagements with artists, curators, institutions, and collections, emphasizing engagement and exchange deeply connected to the local and international art community.

Program Details

• Duration: 3 months
• Two fellowships offered: Visual Art and Curatorial
• 2 fellows in residence at one time
• Working language: English

Fellowship Prize & Stipend

• Fellowship Prize: $3,000 USD
• Stipend: $200 USD per week for the 3-month duration
• Round-trip airfare (basic coach) provided by ARCAthens

Housing & Facilities

• Private bedroom and private bathroom
• Shared kitchen
• Studio space provided for Visual Art Fellows
• Health measures compliance required
• Responsible maintenance of shared resources expected

Eligibility

ARCAthens values diversity and welcomes applicants from all countries and nationalities, representing a broad range of creative thought and practice. Open to applicants not residing in Greece.

• Open call
• Selection by 3-person independent committee of arts professionals

Travel & Visas

• US Nationals: Visas not necessary for program duration
• Non-US applicants: Responsible for procuring visas as applicable
• Passports must be valid for duration of stay (6 months before and after encouraged)
• New European Entry/Exit System (EES) applies to non-EU nationals traveling in/out of Schengen Area

Fellow Responsibilities

• Responsible for all food and local transportation costs beyond stipend
• Responsible for costs related to production, installation, or shipping of work
• Expected to engage with core elements of the structured program framework
• Must comply with facility health measures
