Program Overview
The Ian Potter Cultural Trust runs annual funding rounds through which individual artists can apply for grants of up to $15,000. The Trust funds nationally and supports artists working across the spectrum of the arts, from traditional art forms through to experimental mediums. All applicants must review the Trust's Standard Grant Conditions.

- Applications Close: Tuesday 19 January 2027, 5PM AEDT
- Grants announced: Late March 2027
- For projects/travel after: 1 April 2027
Eligibility
To be eligible for funding, applicants must be a minimum of 18 years old, be an Australian citizen or Permanent Resident with access to an Australian bank account, make a reasonable personal financial contribution to their project, demonstrate exceptional talent and passion for their work, and classify as emerging or early-career (within 10 years of attaining first formal arts qualification or significant recognition of work).
Who Cannot Apply
- Individuals who have received or acquitted a grant from the Trust within the last two years
- Artistic groups submitting a single application on behalf of multiple individuals (each artist must submit individually)

- Mentorships
- Study tours with clear skills development focus
- Masterclasses and private lessons
- Internships
- Conferences and workshops
- Postgraduate study with professional development focus where no equivalent exists in Australia
- Professional development programs combining multiple opportunities
Ineligible Projects
- Projects where sole purpose is exhibition, performance, or making a work (including recordings, publications, or festival performances)
- Undergraduate degree courses
- Postgraduate study through Australian institutions within Australia
- Projects already underway or commencing before the funding round's project start date
- Applications previously declined by the Trust (unless applying for a different project)
Assessment Criteria
Applications are reviewed for eligibility, assessed by external practice area experts, then considered by the Board of Trustees. Assessment focuses on applicant's talent and commitment, relevance and benefits to career development, viability of project, and alignment with Trust funding principles.
Special Notes
The Trust primarily funds international projects. Development projects in Australia will only be considered in exceptional circumstances. Musical instruments or equipment may be supported in particular circumstances. The Trust is unable to provide feedback to unsuccessful applicants.
