About
Overview
In collaboration with Alberta Printmakers (A/P), the High Performance Rodeo invites local Calgary-based artists to create limited-edition screen-printed posters celebrating the festival's 41-year history. Up to 10 artists will be selected to participate.
What You Receive
- A/P membership and 3-month A/P Studio Rental Contract (September–November 2026; $630 value)
- All materials for poster creation provided
- Up to 3 technical support and consultation sessions
- Access to 2027 HPRodeo shows with Artist Pass
- One impression of each poster edition (full portfolio set)
- Exhibition in the Poster Show (3-week period in January 2027)
Project Requirements
Each artist will develop a thematically cohesive limited-edition screen-printed poster celebrating the High Performance Rodeo's history, focusing on HPRodeo shows, past artists, One Yellow Rabbit ensemble members, or combinations thereof.
Key Dates
- July 26, 2026: Applications due by 11:59 pm MT
- Mid-August 2026: Selected artists notified
- Early September 2026: Studio orientation (one day per artist; date/time TBD)
- September–October 2026: Project development and completion
- November 28, 2026: Final completed and signed poster editions due
- December 1, 2026: Artist bios and statements due
- January 2027: Framed posters submitted and installed
- January 15 – February 7, 2027: HPRodeo 2027 and Poster Show Exhibition
Eligibility
Applicants must be local artists based in Calgary/Mohkinstsis with some familiarity with screen printing and availability to develop and complete the poster edition during the project timeline.
Application Assessment
Applications will be reviewed by High Performance Rodeo staff, A/P staff, and members of the visual and performing arts community based on feasibility to execute the project, potential for artistic development, interest in and creative approach to celebrating HPRodeo history, and examples of previous work. The selection process will also consider diversity of peoples, voices, identities, perspectives, professional arts training and career trajectories, and artistic practices.
Exhibition Details
Final posters will be exhibited in the Laycraft Lounge (or other prominent location) during the 3-week poster show activation in January 2027. One impression of each poster will be included in the exhibition; one will be retained for archives; each participating artist receives one full portfolio set. Remaining impressions will be used for fundraising.
