Overview
Ceramics Fabrication provides end-to-end ceramic fabrication services for artists, designers, and cultural partners at any scale. The team specializes in wheel-thrown, slip-cast, hand-built, and 3D-printed clay processes; formulates bespoke glazes; and fires in oxidation and reduction up to cone 10. Cross-disciplinary projects are welcome in collaboration with other fabrication shops.
Services
- Project Management: design concept to project planning and management; prototypes, small-run editions, large-scale sculptures
- Sculpture: classical sculpture, anatomy/realism, tiles, architectural work
- Wheel Throwing: one-of-a-kind large scale and practical works, multiples, editions
- Ceramic 3D Printing: design and 3D printing with clay
- Mold Making & Slip Casting: one-of-a-kind large scale and practical works, multiples, editions
- Surface Decoration: glaze, sgraffito, terra sigillata, maiolica, inlay, slip trailing, decal, precious metal luster
- Glazing: hand and spray application; over 20 proprietary and commercial glazes or custom formulation
- Hydraulic Pressing: large editions in two-part molds (tiles, plates, vessels); 100–150 pieces per day
- Electric & Gas Firing: oxidation (electric) and reduction (gas) up to cone 10
Firing & Glazing Services (Independent Work)
Firing and glazing services available for work created outside Powerhouse Arts. When renting an entire kiln, staff work with artists to determine the best firing method for specific clay bodies and glazes. A sample board is supplied to artists interested in glazing services.

- Electric – Bisque + Oxidation up to cone 6 (max cone 10 for additional fee): Bisque $0.08 per cubic inch; Glaze Δ 6 $0.08 per cubic inch
- Small Round Kiln (23″ × 23″ × 22″ H): $243 per firing
- Medium Round Kiln (23″ × 23″ × 27″ H): $285 per firing
- Oval Kiln (46″ L × 31″ W × 27″ H): $770 per firing
- Front Loader (30″ W × 30″ D × 54″ H): $972 per firing
- Gas – Reduction up to cone 10: Reduction Δ 10 $0.08 per cubic inch
- Front Loader (67″ D × 55″ W × 60″ H): $6,633 per firing
- Front Loader (47″ D × 38″ W × 44″ H): $2,358 per firing
