Overview
The Native Arts Artist-in-Residency program at the Denver Art Museum serves as an incubator for creative expression, providing artists with opportunities to push their artistic practice, study and take inspiration from the museum's collections, and engage and collaborate with museum visitors.

The 2026 Program
Four artists with ancestral ties to the Arapaho, Cheyenne, and Ute tribes were invited to create artwork for the museum's Indigenous Arts of North America galleries. During staggered residencies in spring 2026, each artist will work on-site and engage with museum visitors through studio visits. New artwork will be on view starting August 1, 2026.
2026 Artists
- Adrian Stevens and Sean Snyder: Installation presenting new beadwork designs alongside historic works from the collection
- CooXooEii Black: Poems of Ascent—a mapping project exploring Arapaho place naming with overlaid symbols on historic geological maps and site-specific poems
- Benjamin L. West: Film and digital photographs of four Cheyenne community leaders with augmented reality elements sharing Cheyenne history and community hopes
