2026 Legal Grant & Lawyer Referral Program - Greater Columbus Arts Council

Overview

GCAC is offering a grant to assist with legal expenses related to an artist's art practice and art business. GCAC has also established a Lawyer Referral Service with attorneys who guarantee to provide grantees a flat fee of $300 per eligible legal service. Grant amounts for 2026 will be lower than last year due to conservative funding approach.

• Literary
• Music
• Theater
• Visual arts
• Multidisciplinary arts

Eligibility Criteria

• Working artist age 18 and older with portfolio, body of work, or performance history
• Paid for performances, sells artwork, or otherwise compensated for artistic creation
• Routinely dedicates time to art creation and regularly shares work with public
• May have formal or informal training; actively engages with artistic community
• Focused on expressing own creative and aesthetic ideas
• Franklin County resident for at least one year prior to application
• Agrees to remain central Ohio resident for one year after award date
• Not enrolled as degree-seeking undergraduate student

Who Is NOT Eligible

• Influencers or YouTube/TikTok/Instagram content creators
• Culinary artists/chefs
• Models and stylists
• Body artists (makeup, nails, hair, tattoos)
• Producers/music producers/creative directors/art directors
• Sound/recording engineers/podcast creators
• Strictly commercial photographers/videographers (weddings, family portraits, business headshots)
• Strictly club or mobile DJs hired for private or public events
• Religious/worship leaders creating work solely for one congregation
• Artists creating work solely using artificial intelligence (AI)
