Overview
The Greater Columbus Arts Council (GCAC) funds cultural festivals centered on presenting the arts (dance, fashion, film, literature, music, theater, and visual arts) that preserve and celebrate heritage traditions and serve immigrant, refugee, and newly arrived American communities. Applicants can request $3,500 in annual funding, or apply for competitive project support for higher amounts.
Eligibility
- Festivals must be pre-existing (have occurred at least once before; newly created festivals are not eligible)
- Must be led by and serve immigrant, refugee, and newly arrived American communities
- Must take place in Franklin County
- Must preserve, celebrate, and share cultural practices, traditions, and values
- Must involve audiences in traditional ways of life and celebrations
- Food/wine festivals are not eligible
What festivals can include
- Customs and art forms passed down through generations
- Traditional music, dance, food, and crafts
- Symbolic ceremonies and/or rituals
- Observation of natural events of cultural significance
Key dates
- January 26, 2026: Application opens
- November 13, 2026: Deadline at 5:00 PM
- Applications must be submitted at least 30 days before the festival start date
How to apply
Submit applications via email to Khaila Carr at [email protected] with festival name, start and end dates, location, website/social media, primary leader contact information, description of cultural representation, and how heritage and arts are presented. Attach supporting documents (flyers, promotional materials, etc.). Eligible applications will be invited to submit through the dedicated portal.
Award & funding
- $3,500 annual funding for eligible cultural festivals
- Applicants requesting more than $3,500 must apply for competitive project support
- Organizations cannot receive both festival funding and project support in the same calendar year
- 100% of awarded grant paid after signed grant agreement is received
After approval
- Grant agreement contract specifying terms becomes available on the portal to sign digitally
- Payment via ACH direct deposit
- Payment processing may take up to four weeks
- Organizations must publicly acknowledge GCAC funding and demonstrate the public value of the arts
