About
Overview
Artists are invited to submit one proposal for temporary illuminated artworks as part of Redmond Lights, a winter celebration sponsored by the City of Redmond. Works will be displayed in two Redmond parks.
Key Dates
- Application deadline: August 30, 2026
- Exhibition: Friday, December 4, 2026 – Monday, January 4, 2027
- Installation deadline: December 3, 2026
- Removal: January 5, 2027 (8 a.m.–3 p.m.)

- Site B: Esterra Park – 2808 Calder Ave NE, Redmond, WA 98052
Award
Awards will be granted up to $5,000. Application fee is free.
Installation Guidelines
- Installations can include illuminated 2D or 3D, multi-media works such as projections, LED lights, lanterns, lasers, AR, interactive light installations, sound, and/or sensors (no amplified sound)
- All electrical must run off one regular 20 amp/120V circuit
- Artwork must be waterproof and weatherproof for four weeks (December into January)
- Artwork must be freestanding and stable (cannot attach to trees, benches, pavilions, etc.)
- Artwork must have no lasting physical impact and leave 'no trace'
- Artist is responsible for all installation and de-installation; alternative accommodations considered case-by-case
- Artwork requires little to no maintenance and is not dependent on event staff
Selection Criteria
- Prior experience or demonstrated ability to complete similar scale projects
- Proposed artwork can be executed within the budget ($5,000) and timeline while meeting installation guidelines
- Artwork is appropriate for the location and event
- Artwork is illuminated and engaging in both daytime and nighttime
- Artwork has not been exhibited at Redmond Lights within the last 5 years
- Artistic merit, originality, and creativity
Artist Responsibilities
- Ongoing communication regarding project evolution and site needs
- 60% design review/studio visit with event staff
- Submit images of completed artwork prior to installation
- Install and display through all of Redmond Lights
- Remove installation between 8 a.m. and 3 p.m. on January 5, 2027
